3 Ways To: Stop, Collaborate, & Listen

Updated: Sep 22, 2021

We've all tried the competitive business model. Some of us are good at it. Some are getting better. There are 2 ways to do business: Competition or Collaboration. Get good at both.

1. Find A Small Way To Give Back

Find a way to give back or mentor to an organization or place that helped you grow.

3 Reasons to Give Back:

  • It brings back good memories.

  • It helps you see how far you've grown.

  • It makes you grateful to the people who helped you - who are still there and still helping

Pausing our own journey to look back and give back, is one of the best things you can do for your personal and professional growth.

Anytime you can - choose genuine human connection combined with your brand.

Value real impact over paid-for digital impressions.

Don't do it for the brand awareness. But don't leave it out either. It's good for you to know that wherever you are, you're representing.

2. Partner With Someone Else's Project

Is there a cause in your community that you can 100% get behind?

  • Do they need a sponsor?

  • Do they offer a brand placement for your support?

  • What can you do to collaborate?

This is a great way to practice collaboration of community involvement + getting your brand in front of your community.

Billboards only reach eyes. Sponsorships reach hearts.

3. Show Off Your Tribe – Spotlight or Shoutout

This last one is one of my FAVORITE ways to work your collaborate muscles. Think Show and Tell - only you are the host. You can do this on Facebook, LinkedIn, or employee breakroom in a few different ways:

Ask A Question:

e.g. What's the best thing you made, built, or did this year that you're proud of?

This one's super fun - you end up with stories and photos and glimpses into your community's lives that you haven't had before. I never knew how many business people LOVE learning how to bake, or reupholster, or show some behind-the-scenes time-lapse of a project they've picked up this year!

You may find something you want to be a part of - or some new hobby you want to pick up! But it's a fantastic way to shine the spotlight and build up that community.

Write a Google Review For a Local Business:

This is one of the best things you can do for a business. It helps their search ratings. It ups the value of trust for future clients/customers. And they may want to return the favor!

Give A Shoutout:

Is there someone who's inspired you professionally, or encouraged your personal growth? Write about it. Give them a public thank you, or send them a thank you card. When we take time to thank the people who are a part of not only our lives, but our growth, it helps us to value future growth collaborations.
