The Internet is [NOT] Forever
— SUE SKAVLEM, 12/2024
The internet is [NOT] forever, AND nothing lasts forever.
Pre-Y2K Era
In 1999 I journaled on Xanga and LiveJournal.
My first website was designed on GeoCities.
All my then-legal music was on burned CDs
2000s Era
In 2000s Tom was my friend on MySpace.
Facebook was only for people in your school with a .EDU address same as yours.
YouTube/Vimeo vlogs were an outlet for the nerds before they had sponsors.
All my music was on WinPlayer
2010s Era
In 2010s Vines rose and fell as short-form storytelling kings before TikTok.
All my music was on iTunes
The "dating algorithm" used by matching companies was sold and started matching people with the content & ads they interacted with or 'matched with' on social media, changing the algorithm forever.
2020s Era - Today [ish]
In 2020s Clubhouse had its 5 min of fame by being invite only.
Twitter/X was/is a place where quick wit can buy you lifelong infamy.
People used ghostwriting before the rise of robots, AI, or chatGPT.
What It Boils Down To
What I'm saying is:
Your message & your business may move places more than once in your lifetime.
Don't sweat it.
You're adaptable.
And so is your brand.
QUESTIONS
Which social media platforms are you on for business?
Which social media platforms do your current customers use?
Which social media platforms are your growth market customers using?
Which social media platforms do you consistently post to? Are you talking where your customers are listening?
What can you drop or add by yourself?
Where do you need help?
I hope you enjoyed this digital journey as much as I did!

When I make a design, I think – What can this do?
These designs don’t just exist. These designs DO. They work hard alongside you and your business. These designs are levers. They are sales. They are engaged customers. They are brand recognition that gets you that meeting.
Top 3 things I love to do: Read. Paint. Snowboard.
